I have applied for a tax number for my business but have not received it yet. Can I still write invoices?
If, in the course of a company's tax registration, the tax number applied for from the tax office has not yet been issued by the tax office, invoices cannot be issued because the regulations on issuing invoices under Section 14 of the German Turnover Tax Act (UStG) prevent this. Pursuant to Section 14 (4) Sentence 1 No. 2 UStG, the performing entrepreneur must state in the invoice either the tax number issued to him by the domestic tax office or the VAT identification number issued to him by the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt).
