More information
- The person concerned is required to prove that he or she holds a driver's license.
- A new driver's license is not required in the event of a change of name due to marriage or other circumstances, provided that the name on the driver's license can be seen on the identity card.
- A card driver's license is always issued as a replacement driver's license. This is produced centrally by the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin.
- Application must be made in person (as the signature must be in the presence of the official).
- Collection can be made by a person authorized in writing. The replacement driver's license can also be sent (against reimbursement of postage costs).
- If no replacement driver's license is applied for, the person concerned must relinquish the driver's license (§ 25 (4) FeV).
- There is no provisional driver's license, but there is a "fee-based exemption".
- When the new driver's license is issued, the previous driver's license loses its validity. If the lost driver's license is recovered, it must be handed in to the responsible driver's license authority without delay.
