An application can be made informally. It should contain at least the following information:
- Applicant (name and address)
- affected property (address/plot and parcel)
- tree species and trunk circumference (measured at a height of 1m)
- distance to residential building (measured at 1m height)
- Reasons for felling or pruning.

Publicly appointed and sworn experts are responsible for the examination. These can be obtained from the Chamber of Commerce (www.handelskammer-bremen.de) or, for example, the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture (www.lwk-niedersachsen.de).
