Not every plant or plant part may be imported into the EU from third countries. This applies in general, regardless of whether it is a matter of vacation souvenirs, foodstuffs, removals or commercial shipments, for example. The aim is to protect the environment and people from the introduction of plant pests or the spread of foreign plants.

Basic information
Before entering/importing into the EU, you should always find out which plants may be transported. The transportation of plants may be prohibited in principle or permitted under certain conditions, e.g. after an official inspection by a phytosanitary inspector and accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate (PGZ).
