Procedure
Informal application to the responsible office.
The severely disabled person's ID card can be issued directly on site on presentation of a passport photo. This also applies to the branch office in Bremerhaven. Processing by post takes approx. 1.5 weeks.

- As a rule, they are issued for an unlimited period of time, with time limits due to follow-up examinations (for certain illnesses: e.g. cancer, diabetes mellitus, mental illness, etc.).
- Exemption from the photo requirement for adults or validity without a photo can be granted on application. The attending physician must confirm that it is no longer medically possible to take photographs.
- If you move within the federal state of Bremen, an informal notification of address (by e-mail, post, fax or telephone) is sufficient.
- The severely disabled person's ID card is now only issued in credit card format.
For children under the age of 10:
- the period of validity of the ID card is limited to the end of the calendar month in which the child turns 10 (= 10th birthday). A photograph is not required up to the age of 10. The card is also valid without a photo.
- Subsequent renewals are then issued until the age of 20 (=20th birthday) at the latest.
