Driving license reinstatement (after revocation)

If your driver's license has been revoked and you want to drive a motor vehicle again, you must apply for a new driver's license.

A driver's license can be reissued upon application after a revocation and after the expiration of the blocking period, if any. In order to enable timely processing, the application for reissuance should be submitted 3 months before the expiry of the ban period.

Requirements

You must prove that you are fit to drive motor vehicles again.

In addition, you must fulfill the general requirements of the respective driver's license classes. You can find an overview under the service Apply for a driver's license/First issue. You will find the link to this under "Further information" - "Where can I find out more?".

What documents do I need?

  • Identity card or passport
  • Passport photo

according to the photo sample board

  • Important information about the photo booths in all offices of the Citizen's Office:
    • The machines are operated by outside companies and often do not work. It cannot be guaranteed that passport photos can be taken on site. We advise you to bring passport photos to the appointment.
  • Proof of training in first aid
  • Penalty order of the public prosecutor's office, court judgment or revocation order of the driver's license office
  • Certificate of good conduct for submission to authorities (document type O)

To ensure that the certificate of good conduct is already available on the day of the personal application, we recommend using the online procedure at the Federal Office of Justice. There you will find all further information and also the "Online application for certificate of good conduct". A final application can only be processed if the certificate of good conduct is available. If the certificate of good conduct is only applied for at a later date, processing will be delayed.
