Dog tax: Deregister dog

You are obliged to deregister your dog for tax purposes if:

• You no longer keep the dog or
• you move away from the city of Bremen with the dog.

If you move from the city of Bremen to another municipality, you must deregister your dog in the city of Bremen. Find out from the new municipality about the dog tax liability there.

If you have moved within the city of Bremen, you do not need to deregister. In this case, however, please inform the dog tax office at the Bremen tax office informally of your new address.

Requirements

• The dog ownership was terminated.
  
  • You used to keep the dog in the city of Bremen and no longer do so. For example:
    
    • The dog has died.
    • You move away from the city of Bremen.
    • You have given the dog to someone else.
    • You have given the dog to an animal shelter.
    • The dog has run away and you assume that it will not come back.

What documents do I need?

• Please submit the deregistration form provided and hand in the dog tax stamp. In addition, please submit the following documents:
  
  • Selling or giving away the dog:
    
    • Name and address of the new owner.
  • Deceased dog:
    
    • Certificate from the vet or the rendering plant confirming the death.
  • Dog given to an animal shelter:
    
    • Copy of the shelter's admission contract.
  • Relocation:
    
    • Informal letter
