The basic prerequisite for the granting of a licence to broker sports bets in a betting agency (betting office) is that the organiser of the sports bets has a licence in accordance with §§ 4a to 4e, § 10a of the State Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV).
Basic information
With the most recent amendment to the State Treaty on Gambling, private sports betting providers have been granted the opportunity to obtain a licence pursuant to §§ 4a et seq. of the State Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV) for the organisation of sports betting on the Internet and terrestrially through betting agencies as of 1 January 2020. The mediation of sports betting in these betting agencies requires an additional mediation licence for the respective location in accordance with the country-specific requirements.
