Basic information
Anyone who was sentenced to imprisonment in the former GDR in violation of the rule of law and suffered damage to their health as a result of the imprisonment receives care. Care is also available to anyone who has suffered damage to his or her health as a result of a sovereign measure taken by an official authority of the former GDR, if this measure is incompatible with fundamental principles of a free legal system.
Requirements
Benefits under the Prisoner Assistance Act are paid to persons who have been taken into custody in the former Soviet occupation zone or the former Soviet sector of Berlin or in the German territories for political reasons and reasons for which they are not responsible according to the free democratic view, and who have suffered damage to their health in the process.
