From January 1, 2024, the children's passport will no longer be available as a travel document. You can use your child's current passport until it is no longer valid.  

After December 31, 2023, you will no longer be able to renew children's passports.  

Do you need a new travel document for your child?  

You can apply for a passport or identity card for your child. Please find out about these travel documents before the appointment. You can access the service descriptions "Applying for an ID card" and "Applying for a passport - for people under the age of 18" via the links under "Further information" - "Where can I find out more". 

Appointments that have already been made remain valid. You have the option of applying for an ID card or passport for your child on site.

What documents do I need?

  • Important note: the children must always be present in person!

  • Important information about the photo booths in all offices of the Citizen's Office:        
    • The machines are operated by outside companies and often do not work. It cannot be guaranteed that passport photos can be taken on site. We advise you to bring passport photos to the appointment.
    • 
    
  • Proof of identity        
    e.g. old or invalid identity card, valid (child) passport or birth certificate in the case of infants or young children who do not yet have a (child) passport or identity card.

  • in the case of a change of name, a document or certificate from the registry office

  • 1 current biometric passport photo according to the photo sample board (not older than three months)        
    • 
    
  • For children under 16 years of age:        
    Special declaration of consent (explicitly related to the issuing of the identity card) of the person with custody, as well as their identity cards (also copies) and, if applicable, proof of custody.

  • For passports - declaration of consent from the legal guardian        
    • as well as their identity cards (also in copy) and, if applicable, proof of custody
